| We
work with children orphaned by AIDS to enable them to grow, develop,
be educated and live together as a family through the following
means:
Averting
crisis
Many AIDS orphans live in abject poverty. In these conditions it
is impossible for them to plan for the future, as all their energy
is used trying to get from one day to the next. We provide children
with the basics they need - food, shelter and security - to lift
them out of crisis and despair.
The
next step - towards the future
We ensure that all children in our care have access to education
or skills training. We pay for their school fees, uniforms and books
and ensure they attend school. Experience shows that education is
one of the keys to breaking out of the cycle of poverty.

Long
term survival
In the world's poorest countries, the state can provide little or
no safety net. By helping children and families with farming or
establishing a small business, we secure their economic future.
Over time this enables them to become self-sufficient and restores
their hope and dignity.
Adult
support and guidance
Children learn to be responsible adults from their parents, neighbours
and relatives. In communities where AIDS has wiped out a large proportion
of the adult population, there are many children growing up without
the guidance they need to help them make the right decisions in
life. We ensure that all children in our care have access to a trained
support worker or community leader for advice, counselling, support
and encouragement through the hardest times.
